Create 3D models from photos

An automatic way to create detailed photo realistic 3D models with full textures. With two or more photos of the same thing (taken according to instructions) a 3D-model can be automatically calculated. Supported 3D formats 3DS, WRL, X3D, COLLADA, AN8 (convertable to other formats).

How does it work?

The "Photo-To-3D Converter" program takes a set of photos and calculates a 3D model. The program calculates 3D information by comparing photos shot at the same object at different angles. The model can then be imported into other popular 3D modeling tools such as Anim8or or SketchUp.

These are examples of 3D models created with photos taken with a simple (2-Megapixel) camera.

Two photos taken close together makes the best results.

The camera can be tilted 90 degrees to maximize the area of the photo used by the object of interest.

Daylight is perfect. A good light source needed for good results. The camera flash can not be used.

The Photo To 3D Converter is program that you run on you own computer. It is capable of converting photos to 3D models in several popular formats (3ds, VRML, Collada etc). It is currently in beta testing and will during this time be free of charge.
